The dirty old go-go bar's reborn...as a slightly less-dirty go-go bar

The Phoenix was a legendary creature that would set itself ablaze and rise from the ashes, in order to start an online university whose alumni include three-time WNBA MVP Lisa Leslie. Rising from its own legendary ashes, The Trestle Inn.

Trestle's the thankfully cleaner iteration of infamously gritty J & J Trestle Inn, which closed in '09 before catching fire last summer; it’s reemerged while keeping much of the dark-wood-heavy, dimly lit digs that weren't charred, and also the lovely, be-tasseled dancers, whose costumes have been updated to give off a “'60s-'70s vibe”, whose covers only ever featured Teddy Pendergrass and Billy "White Shoes" Johnson. They’ve seriously overhauled the booze: 12 craft taps like Lord Chesterfield, cocktails like the whiskey/Grand Marnier/agave nectar Fast Pussycat, plus a specialized whiskey sour menu including changeups like the currant-infused Black Power, which Rebecca clearly has, as she and only she gets to decide if she wants to sit in the front seat or the back seat on Fridays. For shakin' that doesn’t involve cocktails, head to the back, where, after 10p, the aforementioned ladies’ll take turns on a makeshift stage, running through (sadly semi-clothed) go-go, burlesque, and cabaret routines; once the real stage is in, they’ll be joined by burlesque legend (and fiery-tassel pioneer) Satan's Angel, plus Peek-A-Boo Review, which generally goes something like: "Sure, the enthusiasm was there, but her hands weren't nearly big enough to cover her whole face, ruining the subsequent surprise. C-".

Because watching that flaming tassel deal burns a ton of calories, Trestle's got a gourmet menu of bar snacks ranging from goat cheese-enhanced deviled eggs to mom-quality casseroles like a turkey & dressing Thanksgiving mash-up, plus thick sammies stuffed with everything from tuna salad to buffalo meatloaf, also a failed WNBA team started by a guy who claims he went to Middle School of Phoenix Online, with Meat Loaf.
