Uneeda Burger

Success is often achieved by doing one thing very well, and it's true: for years, no one in baseball could beat the Mariners at absurdly over-paying Richie Sexson. Doing their one thing well without wasting money they could've potentially spent on Brady Anderson, Uneeda Burger.

Officially opening Monday after a soft open this week, this 30-seat (with 30 more on the deck out front) burger/shake-shack from the guy behind Restaurant Zoé and Quinn's is offering up affordable versions of gourmet-ish beef discs, all in a toweringly ceiling'd former garage (from which it also stole its name) fitted with interlocking cedar plank walls and automotive art like a series of mechanics' name tags and a rusted sign from Goodyear, which for Russell Crowe is one when no one reminds him he was in that film. Made with all-natural beef sourced from Painted Hills (or grass-fed Wagyu from Crescent Harbor for a few dollars more), UB's 'gers include the Black Forest ham/ Gruyere/ truffled shoestring potato Monsieur; the charred onion/ bacon/ cheddar BBQ Smash; and the Sonora w/ roasted chili relish, cilantro, and jack cheese, which usually involves tired jokes about Jill's hills. On the not-burger front, there are sandwiches (the Up-State w/ Frank's Red Hot Buffalo chicken & pickled onions), soups (Classic Rocky Mountain Chili w/ cheddar & red onions), and sides like beef gravy/ cheese-topped Poutine, and fries that are either skinny cut or waffle, also what Russell should really consider doing next time Ridley Scott calls.

For washing things down, there're hand-dipped shakes made with Empire Ice Cream, floats leveraging a selection of artisan sodas, bottled wine/beer, and taps from the bacon-beer-ists at Odin and Manny's -- though go easy, or you won't have any Sex...son!
