Union Park 2.0

Just like when Steve Martin's foster family moved from a crummy old shack to a bigger, nicer shack, Union Park has shuttered its West 6th watering hole and moved into a massive, still-sporting Aloft space outfitted with two patios, tasteful Longhorn memorabilia, and a gloriously gratuitous flatscreen armada (15+) including a custom 360-degree projection ring-screen to, you know, rule them all. The menu's been greatly expanded to include new entrees (the jalapeno-gravy Chicken Fried Ribeye; Sweet & Spicy Ribs slow cooked w/ cayenne, crushed red pepper & candied pecans), burgers (the Bypass: two 1/2lb patties, bacon, grilled cheese sandwiches as buns), desserts (Nutella Funnel Cake, Sparkling Cotton Candy), and pizzas like the sausage/ bacon/ pepperoni/ ground beef Magnum, a name long-craved by meat-lovers.

Originally known for their daily specials, the new loc has added $2 Mexican bottles + $3 Cazadores shots on Thu ("The Deer & A Beer"), $5 food deals (burgers on Tue, pizzas on Wed, apps all other days), and bottomless Sunday mimosas in five flavors ranging from mango ginger to pineapple basil; classic nights remain, like Wednesday's Gong Karaoke -- thankfully no longer a lamentation fest hosted by Jimmy Falun. Although the new space encourages daytime patrons to bring their children and dogs, it's adults/humans only after 8p, so there'll be no young'uns to stop you from acing the role of The Jerk.
