A storied New York joint lands in The District

Anything that's lasted a hundred and twenty plus years must be doing something right, just ask Candice Bergen! Haha, just kidding -- she needs her rest. For classic grub delicious enough to last for years to come, check out PJ Clarke's.

The DC iteration of an NYC institution built in 1884, Clarke's is a 105+ seater handsomely antiqued with a penny tile floor, red n' white picnic table cloths, a Solarium from one of Walt Disney's estates (fitted with milk glass from Louisiana), and walls covered with prints of vintage DC maps/politicians/photos, including (per tradition) one of JFK up behind the bar, though it breaks with the Kennedy's traditional placement down below it. Steaks are their specialty, with standard cuts including a 10oz filet or 14oz dry aged N.Y. strip served with matchstick fries & homemade steaksauce, and their 10oz Prime Skirt 'Steak Frites' served Neat/Classique/Au Poivre/Roquefort or Bordelaise, with all the meat hailing from Montana's Meyer Ranch, which unlike Urban Meyers, always serve up a great spread. Non-steak artistry includes red Angus beef burgers like "The Cadillac" with smoked country bacon & American cheese, a raw bar dishing East & West Coast Oysters, and sandwiches like a Maryland jumbo lump crab cake, and the roast Free Range Turkey Club, whose main ingredient wishes it had stayed away from that other free range club.

For old-timey whistle-wetting, they've got eight draft beers, 70 wines, and revered cocktail classics like a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned, something you definitely can't accuse old Murphy of.
