Bring-your-own-tequila in Fairmount

Many businesses get named for someone in the owner's family, like Dave Thomas's daughter Wendy, or Dave & Buster's adopted mouse-son, Chuck E. Cheese. Showing some love for their little girls, the guys behind Isabel.

Isabel’s a Mexicali BYO named for one partner's daughter and another's niece, which took over a giant-windowed former bagel shop in 2601 Pennsylvania's lobby, adding a patio space with three-tops, and stuffing the insides with a Spanish-tiled counter, plenty of greenery, and tables hewn from cherry wood so raw, they just got scheduled to wrestle The Miz next Monday night.

The menu's still in the process of expanding, but current starters include crab & shrimp or beef empanadas, a killer crema-topped quesadilla stuffed with roasted duck and pico de gallo, and bowls of Pozole, a Mexican soup topped with onion, lime, radish, and shredded romaine, aka why Mystique shouldn't have disguised herself as Wolverine's tax documents.

Mains, meanwhile, range from mango salsa'd seared scallops and an escolar filet with crab guac, to land-lubbing offerings like skirt steak with rice & beans and their take on a Drunken Chicken, which's produced by challenging Marty McFly to a game of Up The River, Down The River roasting a game hen in tequila.

With what they didn't spend on a liquor license, Isabel got themselves a sweet blender they'll use for drink-mixing provided you bring the tequila, which'll lead you to remember the names of absolutely no one.
